Firstly, let have a look at the design and built quality of both the speakers. Along with this we will find out the differences between them.
Every time JBL launches a new speaker as compare to the older version the new version has any type of increase in size or in terms of heigh.
By looking at the size of both JBL Flip 4 has a smaller when compare to JBL Flip 5 and it is bigger by 7 inches long, 3 inches tall and 3 inches deep and it is weight about 0.54 G. Yet a little bit of weight is added but it is not noticeable.

The Control Button available at JBL Flip 4 Bluetooth Speaker are Play/Pause, Volume Up/Down, Power On/Off, Bluetooth Mode, JBL Connect+. On the other hand, on JBL Flip 5 Bluetooth Speaker you will get, Volume Up/Down, Power On/Off, Play/Pause, Bluetooth Mode, Party Boost.
Regarding the placement of both the button are at the back of wire mesh. Additionally, power button of both the devices are in built with the plastic bar.
Yet the Play/Pause button on the speaker perform differently. In JBL Flip 4 Bluetooth Speaker it can use to access to Google Assistant, Siri or to accept Phone calls. On the other hand in JBL Flip 5 Bluetooth Speaker all this functionality are not available and it can be use for only Play or Pause the song.
In terms of easy acces no doubt the winner is JBL Flip 5. But when it come to control function the Flip 4 has more functionality.
Yes, with new version Flip5 there is no longer speakerphone, which means there is no chance of attending call through the speaker. On the other hand, this feature is available in Flip4.
Lets begin with the Bluetooth technology both the speaker have a version of 4.2. Along with this Flip 4 has an input of 3.5 mm Audio Jack capability. On the other hand this is absence on Flip 5. The absence of Auxiliary Port can’t be a deal breaker right. Because today most of the device’s has support of Bluetooth.
But there is twist on this the JBL Flip 4 is lack of fast charging facility. It does support only a Micro-USB. In JBL Flip 5 it support fast charging, this can play a major role while charging the device.
In the paper both has the Playback time upto 12 Hours. With concern to the mAh capacity the JBL Flip 5 has 4,800mAh while JBL Flip 4 has only 3000mAh. There is really a huge difference regarding the mAh capacity as well as the price.
But this may not be the case in reality. The Battery life really depend upon the usage or as well as the volume percentage.
However, by setting the volume at 50 to 60 percentage it can give you upto 11 Hours or more. But at full maximum volume it can last upto 4 or 5 Hours. The charging time of both the speaker defer from each.

The Mids:
Concerning the Mids both the speakers equally produce the same quality. However there is a little muddiness but the mid-range are clear and well defined.
The Highs:
The highs produce by the Flip 4 is raspy than the Flip 5. But the Highs of Flip 5 are docile and less overemphasize and this leads into compliment less color retaliation.
Verdict In Terms of Sound Quality:
The quality of sound of JBL Flip 5 is a little better than the JBL Flip 4. Plus better Bass performance, not big but noticeable. In terms of loudness the Flip 5 stand out.
And Yes, the signature sound of JBL are same in both the speakers. One thing you know is that the Flip 4 produce the sound in a wider stage. While the Flip 5 produce the sound in a straight way.

Well there is a replacement of features of like Speakerphone, Connect+ etc. But there is an addition of new features too in JBL Flip 5 Bluetooth Speaker like Party Boost etc. For some people who already own a JBL Speakers they migh have might some little disappointment on it. But for the others this might be no big case at all.

By looking at the features the JBL Flip 4 Bluetooth Speaker has more ability than the JBL Flip 5 Bluetooth Speaker. But the important features like Battery, and quality of sound does not lack in Flip 5. However, in terms of quality both have the same as well as materials. Keeping aside, both have the selling point.
Firstly, If you wanted to buy an allrounder Bluetooth Speaker you should go for JBL Flip 4 Bluetooth Speaker. But you will better sound quality and fast charging.
Secondly, But yes if you are a choice is a better sound quality and performance you should definitely go for JBL Flip 5 Bluetooth Speaker. But you will miss Audio Inout Jack, Speakerphone and 70Hz Frequency.
